CHCI AA Presents a Roundtable Discussion
"Young Blue, Red, and Purple Latinos: Empowering The Community Through Advocacy"
The CHCI Alumni Association (CHCI-AA) in collaboration with other leading organizations will bring together young Latino professionals from across the political spectrum for a 2 hour roundtable discussion on modern advocacy. Participants will have the opportunity to meet leaders from DC and around the country; expand their understanding of organizing grassroots and coalition-building utilizing online tools; and learn about effective message communication.

to Attend the 6th Annual CHCI Alumni Association
Young Latino Professional Reception
CHCI confirmed today that Carlos Santos, comedian/writer, MTV Tr3s and MTV VJ will attend the CHCI AA Young Latino Professional Reception which will take place at Josephine Lounge in Washington, DC on September 14th. The Alumni reception is one of many exciting events occurring in Washington throughout the week. As an ongoing effort by the Alumni Association to support CHCI's mission of developing the next generation of Latino leaders, all proceeds from the reception are to benefit the CHCI Scholarship Awards.
Carlos will also be participating in the Ready to Lead (R2L) program on Tuesday, September 15th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. He understands the importance of giving back and has always been active about his passion for education and voting. Though born and raised in Puerto Rico, he later moved to California, where he spent time volunteering at Friends of Lockwood, a charity that helps underprivileged children enjoy their time in school. In 2008 he served as keynote at Hispanic Heritage Foundation's Leaders on Fast Track (LOFT) Awards in Washington, DC and interviewed congressional leaders on the importance of the Latino vote.

CHCI Alumni Association Los Angeles Evening Networking Reception

On Friday, May 22, 2009 the CHCI Alumni Association Los Angeles Chapter hosted its first professional networking reception at the Suede Lounge in downtown Los Angeles. The reception helped kick-off CHCI's Ready to Lead (R2L) program on Saturday, May 23, 2009 that attracted nearly 100 students from the L.A. area.
The LA Chapter held the reception with the purpose of bringing together alumni from the greater Los Angeles area to not only introduce them to the Chapter's new Executive Board but to also build momentum for the Chapter's future. The event was a huge success with over 40 alumni in attendance as well as Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO; Andrea Velasco, CHCI High School Programs Specialist; Scott Gunderson Rosa, CHCI Communications Director and Katy Martinez, Programs Coordinator for the CHCI Alumni Association.
The new Los Angeles Chapter Board is enthusiastic and hopeful about its member's active participation for this year and would like to give a special thank you to Ben Cardenas and Liz Hernandez for their tremendous leadership in getting the Chapter to a great start.
CHCI Miami Alumni Chapter Sponsors Two-Day Leadership Retreat
On Friday, April 10, 2009 the CHCI Alumni Association Miami Chapter co-sponsored the Miami Youth Leadership Retreat (MYLR) Inaugural Mentor/ Mentee Reception with the University of Miami School of Law's Joint Program on Law, Public Policy and Ethics. Miami Chapter member Edlyn Hernandez founded MYLR and spearheaded the two-day program targeted at exceptional high school juniors attending Miami- Dade County Public Schools in under-served communities.
The retreat offered students a plethora of workshops that addressed various aspects of cross-cultural communication, leadership skills, and topics to help them navigate the college admissions process. CHCI Miami Chapter members Hernandez, Claudia Medina, and Luis Hernandez talked to the students about going away to college and writing personal statements, served as mentors and discussed CHCI programs, scholarships, and fellowship opportunities. The Miami Chapter would like to thank Edlyn for her hard work in making CHCI's association with MYLR a great success.
