Hometown: Edmond, Oklahoma
School: University of Colorado, Boulder
Major: Political Science; Philosophy
Placement: Office of Rep. Greg Casar
Daniel Soto grew up in Denver, Colorado, and was raised by his mother, who immigrated from Venezuela in 2000, and his father, who came to the United States from Mexico. Daniel also spent part of his childhood living in Edmond, Oklahoma. As the first in his family to attend college, Daniel deeply values the sacrifices made to help him pursue his education. He was a two-event state champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and domestic extemporaneous speaking in Oklahoma and a two-time national qualifier in domestic extemporaneous speaking.
Daniel is a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he is double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy. He is a member of Phi Alpha Delta at CU-Boulder, heavily involved with the first-generation program, and serves as the Co-President of the CU Speech and Debate team. After completing his undergraduate studies, Daniel plans to attend law school and become the first lawyer in his family to focus on criminal law, with the goal of becoming a public defender.
While at his internship with CHCI, Daniel hopes to learn about the inner workings of Congress and explore the many facets of the federal judicial system. He aims to honor the sacrifices made for him to have this opportunity by working to create real change in his community.
