Giovanni Marcial Matias

Giovanni Samir Marcial Matias is the son of Mexican Immigrants Benjamin Marcial and Carmela Matias. He’s a rising junior at Math and Science College Preparatory and serves as treasurer for Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica where he focuses on unifying and uplifting the Hispanic community through cultural events and fundraisers. Growing up in a one bedroom apartment and neglected community has inspired him to step up and make a change.

He’s firsthandedly experienced the systematic issues found in educational systems and the lack of support by government officials. Giovanni applied to CHCI NextGen to network and view the perspectives of rising Latino leaders on how to make a change while also refining his leadership and communication skills. Outside of the classroom he’s a videographer, sound system engineer, and takes his body to its limits at the gym. His main motivation is making his parents proud and giving them back everything.
