Giselle Rivera comes from a Mexican immigrant family that lives in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. In high school, she discovered her passion for community and leadership involvement. She joined the Admissions Volunteer Team at school, which helped her improve her leadership skills and find a sense of community by building meaningful connections in a place she loves. As she noticed how the government’s policies affected her immigrant community, she decided it was time to expand her leadership role.

She wanted to go beyond school; she wanted to advocate for those who were overlooked despite their contributions to the country. She applied for CHCI NextGen because of her interest in politics; she wants to speak for those whose voices are often overlooked. Through the program, she hopes to further develop her leadership skills, gain confidence in new environments, and become a better advocate for her community.
