Abby was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Springdale, Arkansas. Abby is the proud child and grandchild of Mexican immigrants and the eldest of four children. Because of this, Abby has dedicated herself to academic and professional excellence and community service to maximize the opportunities her family worked so hard to provide her.
Abby is currently a Junior at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, double majoring in Public Policy, Health and Society with minors in International Affairs and Neuroscience. At SMU, Abby is a Highland Capital Management Tower Scholar, an experiential Public Policy Program. Abby is highly passionate about health policy and providing equitable and affordable care for underserved and low-income communities. Upon graduation, Abby hopes to pursue a Master’s in Health Administration (MHA) and eventually work as a healthcare consultant to legislators and hospital administrators. She hopes to advocate for the healthcare needs of Hispanic and Latino populations in historically exclusive health administrative spaces.
As a CHCI Intern, Abby hopes to build meaningful relationships with Hispanic peers on The Hill and learn as much as possible about the legislative process in practice. She hopes to use her knowledge and experiences from the summer to promote civic involvement within her community at home.
