Angel was born in Guatemala City and raised in Chicago by his mother who immigrated to the United States from Guatemala at 18. As the first person in his family to attend college, Angel understands the importance of caring for himself, others, and his community. Angel has served as Student Body President at Arrupe College, Youth Commissioner for Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and has dedicated his early career as an advocate in local government by working for a handful of Illinois elected officials.
Angel is currently a Junior at the Loyola University Chicago double-majoring in Political Science and Global Studies. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Angel hopes to obtain a master’s degree in public policy while working in government to continue assisting the underserved navigate complex barriers and create innovative policy to solve 21st century issues. His ultimate career goal would be to work for the Governor of Illinois or a federal representative to help the underserved navigate bureaucracy and strategize policy that will move his (and others) communities forward.
As a CHCI Intern, Angel hopes to strengthen his knowledge of the legislative process, as well as gain insight on U.S federal agencies and how they work. He hopes to be able to use this experience to make a difference in his community and inspire others to do the same.
