Congressional Intern, Presented by Toyota

Hometown: Sparks, Nevada

School: University of California, Berkeley

Major: Integrative Biology

Placement: Office of Rep. J. Luis Correa

Christian Arroyo-Vidales, a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley, is pursuing a degree in Integrative Biology and aspires to become a nurse. Raised in Sparks, Nevada by Mexican immigrant parents, he has long been an advocate for underserved communities. As a transgender Latino, his firsthand experiences with systemic barriers have fueled his passion for advancing policy and healthcare equity.

At just seven years old, Christian worked with his family and Governor Sandoval to help pass Nevada’s Senate Bill 331, which prohibits discrimination against transgender individuals in public spaces. His advocacy has continued into college, where he has raised funds for children’s hospitals and lobbied in Washington, DC, engaging with lawmakers on education and LGBTQ+ policy issues.

Through the CHCI internship, Christian hopes to deepen his understanding of the legislative process and share that knowledge with his family, friends, and community, many of whom may not have had the same opportunity to learn about the democratic process. He is committed to advancing policies that improve healthcare access for underrepresented patients, particularly transgender individuals, ensuring they receive the quality care they deserve.
