Luisa Sanchez

Hometown: Danville, Kentucky

School: Boyle County High School

Luisa Sanchez is a junior at Boyle County High School in Danville, Kentucky. Born in a village on the northern tip of Colombia and living there for 7 years, she developed values of justice, community, and compassion that inform her work as an educational advocate and student journalist. As Cross-Organizational Coordinator of the Kentucky Student Voice Team and Senior Editor of the New Edu, Kentucky’s only statewide, youth-led independent newsroom, she hopes to empower students to use their voices to build up an educational system that values and serves them. She has written stories that support more youth participation in state politics, discuss students’ mental health, weigh in on affirmative action, and advocate against book bans, among others, for various state publications. In her free time, Sanchez enjoys reading, painting, and watching movies with her family.
