Melissa Saquinaula is an Ecuadorian first generation student and upcoming senior at the largest, yet one of the least-funded high schools in Connecticut. The challenges her school faces have inspired her to become actively involved in her community and advocate for those who often go unheard. She has served as Class Vice President during her junior and senior years, helping organize events and represent student voices. As a group leader in her YMCA Youth and Government program, Melissa participates and leads discussions on state issues and civic involvement. She applied to CHCI NextGen because she’s passionate about learning about civil matters and eager for new opportunities to grow as a leader.
