CHCI Celebrates CHCI Alumni During Leadership Awards Luncheon
Washington, D.C. – September 10, 2025 – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is proud to recognize the 2025 Chair’s Award honoree, Pedro Brull. In addition, NBC4’s Erika Gonzalez will serve as emcee during the annual celebration to honor the nation’s most remarkable Latino leaders at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is also proud to recognize the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus honoree, Danielle Gonzales and the 2025 CHCI Young Alumnus honoree, Alex Sarabia during its signature Hispanic Heritage Month activities.
The Chair’s Award is presented each year to individuals who have dedicated their careers to improving the lives of Hispanic Americans. The honorees are chosen wholly at the Chair’s discretion.
“Distinguished Florida Rican artist Pedro Brull exemplifies Latino excellence through his remarkable talents, passions, and multifaceted career,” said CHCI Chair Rep. Darren Soto. “He currently resides in my district in Kissimmee and has not only brought beautiful art to the community, but is working to expand artistic opportunities for our youth.”
“Pedro Brull reflects the heart and soul of our Latino community,” said Marco A. Davis, CHCI President and CEO. “Brull’s nimble career has inspired millions, and honoring him is a celebration of what is possible when talent meets purpose.”
“It is a great honor to be recognized by CHCI,” said Pedro Brull. “When people come together to celebrate Latino achievement, we affirm the greatness of our culture and our contributions. I have always been proud to represent my heritage through my art, and to see it valued alongside the many treasures Latinos bring. This recognition is not mine alone but belongs to all who believe in the beauty and strength of our people.”
The 2025 CHCI Chair’s Award will be awarded to Pedro Brull.
Pedro Brull is a distinguished Puerto Rican artist, who has dedicated his life to artistic excellence and creative expression. His career has spanned fine art, mural painting, caricature, television production, and entrepreneurship. For over two decades, Brull served with Telemundo WKAQ-TV, including 11 years as Art Director, while maintaining a thriving career as a freelance artist.
His work, celebrated nationally and internationally, has earned commendations from the United States Congress, universities, newspapers, and cultural institutions. Brull’s artistic legacy is permanently preserved in museums worldwide, including alongside pieces by Pablo Picasso in Spain’s largest museum. His enduring career reflects a life devoted to cultural contribution, creativity, and the celebration of Latino heritage.
The 2025 CHCI Medallion of Excellence for a Distinguished Alumnus recipient is Danielle Gonzales.
Danielle Gonzales, a 1997 CHCI Congressional Intern, is a nonprofit and educational leader, currently serving as a senior fellow for the One Generation Fund and Board President (District 3) for Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education. Most recently Danielle served as Executive Director of New Mexico First, an organization that builds consensus for policy change on issues facing the state of New Mexico. She has over 20 years of experience working in education policy and reform on a national level. Her previous roles include Managing Director at The Aspen Institute, Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and several positions at Pew Charitable Trusts.
The 2025 CHCI Young Alumnus Award recipient is Alex Sarabia.
Alex Sarabia, a 2014-15 CHCI Public Policy Fellow, is the Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, he is a graduate of Boston College, earned a master’s in public policy from the University of Chicago, and was a Fulbright-García Robles Scholar in Mexico City.
About CHCI’s 2025 Gala Emcee Erika Gonzalez
Erika Gonzalez anchors News4 Midday on NBC4 and serves as a Live Desk and breaking news anchor for the station’s evening newscasts and streaming channels. Gonzalez also serves as an anchor and reporter for NBC4’s sister station, Telemundo 44. She began her career in Texas, where she anchored newscasts on KEYE-TV and Telemundo Austin as well as XRIO-TV in the Rio Grande Valley. Gonzalez holds a degree in Communications from the University of Texas-Pan American, now known as UT Rio Grande Valley. She is an Emmy-Award winning journalist who lives with her husband, daughter and son in Washington, D.C.
