Christian Loredo-Duran was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, by his parents who immigrated to the U.S. from Guanajuato, México. As a first-generation college student, he recognizes the importance of creating spaces that welcome all stories and cultures.
Christian is currently studying Public Policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and pursuing minors in Music, Latine Studies, Political Science, and Law, Justice, & Social Change at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. On campus, he is involved in La Casa and Mi Casa Es Tu Casa, organizations dedicated to uplifting Latine student voices, supporting high school students in their journey toward post-secondary education, and uniting the Latine community. His passions are founded on immigration, education, and human rights policy—interests he has advocated for as an intern at Migrant Legal Aid in Grand Rapids and the Michigan Senate. Most recently, he worked with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and the White House Hispanic Initiative through the U.S. Department of Education, where he continued to expand on his passions for immigration and education policy reform.
Christian hopes to gain meaningful insight into policymaking work that uplifts and empowers communities like his own, especially in today’s challenging political climate throughout his time as a CHCI Intern. Through his involvement, he continuously upholds his community and fights to ensure that everyone has access to the rights, resources, and opportunities to succeed.
