Jacqueline “Jackie” Ramos is a first-generation Mexican-American born in Paducah, Kentucky. Raised by parents who immigrated from Mexico to the United States as teenagers, she is the first in her family to attend college. As a first-generation Latina, Jackie understands and values the sacrifices her parents made to offer her the privilege of pursuing higher education. Jackie has always pushed herself to achieve her goals, striving to prove that her family’s and community’s sacrifices were not in vain.
Jackie is a student at the University of Louisville majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Arabic. On campus, she has worked with the Hispanic Latinx & Indigenous Initiatives as a mentor for Latinx students who need advice transitioning to college and navigating a predominantly white institution as a person of color. She is the former president and current alumnae liaison of the Alpha Zeta chapter of Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority, Incorporated, the first and only Latinx Greek organization at the University of Louisville. Jackie is also a mentor for SheBecame Louisville, a program that strives to empower young girls with the skills and confidence to turn their ambitions into reality no matter their background.
Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to pursue a J.D. and begin a career as an immigration attorney. Through CHCI, Jackie hopes to connect with and learn from leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities. She hopes to use this experience to make a difference in her own community and inspire others to do the same.
