Luis Sergio Hernandez Jr.

Vice President of Civic Engagement
Luis Sergio Hernandez Jr. currently serves as a Law Fellow at the George Washington University Law School and as National Board Vice President for Civic Engagement of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Alumni Association. A specialist in intellectual property law, he is passionate about protecting creatives through entertainment law and advancing diverse storytelling in Hollywood.
A CHCI 2006–2007 Graduate Public Policy Fellow, Luis served on Capitol Hill with Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House of Representatives and with Hillary Rodham Clinton in the U.S. Senate. Upon returning to his hometown of Miami, he founded and served as President of the CHCI Alumni Association’s Miami Chapter. For nearly two decades, he has mentored students and mobilized young professionals in furtherance of CHCI’s mission to develop the next generation of Latino leaders.
Luis’s professional experience spans state courts and the federal appellate judiciary, academia, small business enterprise, private practice, and the Smithsonian Institution. He received his J.D. with high honors from George Washington University Law School, was an Articles Editor of The George Washington Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. He also holds four master’s degrees from Columbia University, Harvard University, and Boston College, and completed his B.A. in one year at the University of Miami.
