Alexander Torres was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he was taught from a young age that education would be a vital tool to achieving his career goals. Raised by his mother and grandmother, both of whom worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for him and his siblings, Alexander grew to value and understand the importance of perseverance, especially when challenged with adversity. As a first-generation college student, Alexander understands the value of higher education. For him, earning a degree isn’t just a personal milestone; it’s a step toward uplifting his entire family.

In the summer of 2021, Alexander completed CHCI’s NextGen Latino Leadership Program, an experience that inspired him to co-found the Houston CHCI Alumni Chapter while still in high school. He continues to serve as the chapter’s Communications and Social Media Director, helping to build community and expand outreach efforts.

Now a student at Texas A&M University in College Station, Alexander is pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. As an aspiring engineer, he believes that diversity in education, cultural experience, and interdisciplinary knowledge is essential to driving innovation. His strong foundation in public affairs and civic engagement, including advocacy, policy analysis, community organizing, and environmental conservation, equips him to approach complex challenges from multiple perspectives. Alexander’s ultimate goal is to contribute to the field of space exploration technology related to high-speed flow and advanced propulsion systems.

Returning to CHCI as a Congressional Intern, Alexander hopes to expand his network and gain a deeper understanding of how engineering and related fields contribute to the government process. He also expects to strengthen his understanding of public policy such as the education system, and the importance of representation in government. He plans to use the skills and knowledge he gains to make a meaningful difference.
