Summer 2022 Congressional Interns
ALEXIE NICOLE MILUKHIN
Hometown: Spring Arbor, Michigan
School: Michigan State University
Major: Social Relations and Policy
Placement: The Office of Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García
Alexie was born in San Diego, California, and raised in Michigan alongside her sisters, by her mother who is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. Growing up Alexie was instilled with the notion that education is the key to social mobility, and that it not only opens opportunities for yourself but opportunities that can be brought back to the community.
Alexie is currently a first-generation college student at Michigan State University majoring in Social Relations and Policy with a double minor in Chicano/Latino Studies and Educational Studies. On-campus, Alexie has worked with four separate programs to mentor and facilitate workshops with other students who are first-generation and low-income about high school success, college admissions, and financial aid, impacting over 2,000 students across the state. Off-campus, Alexie has been able to further her commitment to equitable access to education and other resources through her research position with the Educational Policy Innovation Collaborative, and legislative position with the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan. She hopes to obtain a Master’s of Educational Policy and Juris Doctorate by the time she’s 26.
As a CHCI Intern, Alexie hopes to expand her knowledge of legislative processes, have a hand in turning rhetoric into tangible policy change, and build community with other students navigating larger political and educational institutions.
