Andres Garcia Perez was born in Portland, Oregon, where he was raised alongside his four siblings in an unincorporated community called Aloha. His parents migrated from Tlaxcala and Oaxaca, Mexico, sacrificing their dreams, hopes, and ambitions to give his siblings and himself an opportunity at life. 

As a first-generation college student and a child of migrant farmworkers, Andres understands the transformative power of education. He is working to earn a Criminal Justice Associate of Arts Transfer Degree at Portland Community College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Lewis and Clark College He aspires to earn a J.D. and be a licensed and practicing Criminal/Civil Law Attorney and become part of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. Andres understands that it is not just about personal success; it’s about the responsibility he carries to uplift others along the way. This drives his determination to excel at Portland Community College, Lewis and Clark College, and ultimately, the United Nations. People, including his family and community, are counting on him to make a difference. Beyond school, Andres helps coach a Junior Varsity baseball team, volunteers for the Western Farm Workers Association, and volunteers with the San Juan Diego Church. 

Throughout his time as a CHCI Intern, Andres looks forward to networking with aspiring leaders across the country, learning more about U.S. international relations and affairs, and gaining more information on community organizing.
