U.S. Representative Raul M. Grijalva

Carlos was born and raised in the border town of Rio Rico, Arizona and is the youngest of three siblings. He is a proud Tio to five nieces and one nephew. He is a proud Mexican American and first-generation college graduate. Carlos serves as Senior Executive Assistant for Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva, the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee who represents his hometown. 

Prior to working on Capitol Hill Carlos obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish literature with a minor in Latin American studies at the University of Arizona. He began his journey in politics by being highly involved in local political campaigns and leading the college and state chapter for Young Democrats. In addition to being involved in local politics, Carlos completed two internships, one at the district office of Congressman Grijalva and a summer in Washington, DC. These internships inspired Carlos to seek a career on Capitol Hill by seeing first-hand how the work in Congress directly impacts his loved ones and the constituents of his home district. He is passionate about social justice and empowering other first-generation students.

In his free time, he likes to go to the gym, go on hikes, read, and listen to music.
