Hometown: Miami, Florida

School: University of Florida

Major: Political Science; International Relations

Placement: Office of Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester

Daniela Barrantes is a proud daughter of Nicaraguan and Peruvian immigrants. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, stories of migration, sacrifice, and resilience shaped her earliest understanding of community and justice. Her experiences and family history fuel her desire to bridge the gap between those who are too often left out of policymaking and the institutions that shape their lives.

Daniela is pursuing a degree in Political Science and International Studies at the University of Florida, with minors in Public Service and Latin American Studies. As a Fellow at the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, Daniela helps strengthen civic engagement on campus through programming and policy discussions. She has taught English at the English Language Institute, facilitating language learning and cultural exchange among students from over 50 countries. Additionally, she served as a Study Abroad Peer Advisor, mentoring low-income and first-generation students to pursue international education opportunities.

Daniela’s professional experience includes internships at the Florida State Capitol and with local elected leaders, where she supported policy development, constituent services, and strategic communication. She has also studied abroad in Belize, exploring the role of non-profit organizations in global development. Currently learning Brazilian Portuguese, Daniela was awarded the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Scholarship to advance her language and regional studies in Brazil.

As a CHCI Intern, Daniela hopes to gain firsthand insight into the legislative process and U.S. international relations. She aspires to build a career in global service and immigration policy, connecting communities across borders through partnership, understanding, and compassion.
