David López-Ontiveros is a first-generation Mexican-American who enjoys engaging in his culture’s identity. He applied to CHCI to dive deeper into civic involvement and better understand critical issues that can affect generations to come. As the child of immigrant parents, he truly wants to make an impact and difference in the world by empowering those around him to be weapons of change, being involved in his school’s various clubs, such as the Latino affinity space, Hermanos Unidos, Advocacy Club, member of the Equity and Inclusion Committee, and Student Leadership Team. David enjoys being a part of various clubs as a way to get other students involved and ensure that their voices are heard. A big part of David’s journey is capturing his experiences with his camera as a way to document his life as a Latino student, but also capture the essence of enjoyment and community.
