Malyna Gomez Trujillo grew up in San Jose, California, as the oldest child in a family of five. Her father’s experience as a farmworker instilled in her a strong sense of hard work and a deep commitment to justice. From a young age, she organized meal deliveries for farmworkers through her family’s organization, Amigos de Cesar Chavez.
Malyna currently studies at The George Washington University (GW), majoring in Political Science and double minoring in Law & Society and Journalism & Mass Communications. She is also a Cisneros Scholar at the Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute, founded by Representative Gil Cisneros. Malyna is an alum of the CHCI NextGen Latino Leadership Program, and an alum of La Clínica del Pueblo, a nonprofit expanding access to healthcare for D.C.’s undocumented community, where she served as a Communications Intern. During the 2024 presidential election, she was a Mobilization Intern for Battleground States on the Harris-Walz campaign, energizing minority communities in crucial states. Recently, she was a Communications Fellow for Voto Latino, bringing accessible information to Latinos across the country in response to the new administration. In addition to her political and professional work, Malyna is an experienced Folklórico dancer, having danced since the age of five. She has toured with Los Tigres del Norte and, as President of GW Folklórico, performed at the White House Hispanic Heritage Reception, where she met President Joe Biden.
After graduation and inspired by her time on the Harris-Walz campaign, Malyna hopes to work on another campaign for the 2028 presidential election. As a CHCI Intern, she aims to gain experience in the policy-making process, paving the way for future opportunities to pursue a life of public service.
