Angie Bustillos (she/her/ella) is a proud Coloradan and Chihuahuense, deeply rooted in community advocacy and service. Raised by a family of educators, cultural brokers, and business owners, she was instilled with a lifelong commitment to uplifting others and fostering inclusive communities. Although born in the U.S., Angie spent much of her childhood in Mexico, where her grandmothers, both community leaders and entrepreneurs, shaped her understanding of resilience, leadership, and collective empowerment.

In Colorado’s Front Range, Angie built strong local and global connections, developing a passion for transnational engagement. She attended the University of Denver, earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a concentration in Global Economics, graduating Magna Cum Laude with minors in Leadership, Mandarin Chinese, and Geography. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research on U.S.-Mexico supply chains, analyzing the impacts of COVID-19, trade policies, and economic protectionism. She also contributed to asylum services and litigation mediation at a nonprofit and led financial literacy initiatives for high school students in her community.

Angie continued her studies at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, earning a Master of Arts in Global Economic Affairs. She took on leadership roles in student government and program representation while gaining diverse professional experience through internships with the Department of Commerce, the City of Englewood, Denver Mayor’s Residence at Cableland, and a brokerage firm specializing in financial institutions. These experiences deepened her understanding of governmental and corporate processes, international trade, and housing policy.

Now, as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Housing Postgraduate Fellow, Angie is committed to advancing housing policy solutions. With a specialized focus on affordable housing, economic development, and financial inclusion, she strives to leverage her expertise to advance policies that uphold affordable housing as a fundamental human right and expand access to safe, stable, and equitable housing for all. As part of her fellowship, she is placed with the House Committee on Financial Services, where she works on housing policy and financial regulations to promote equitable access to our financial systems.
