Marleny Vargas is a proud Mexican-Guatemalan American, born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She spent 4 years of her childhood living in Guatemala and in Mexico due to her mother’s deportation. In that experience Marleny was dedicated to seek a better education for herself. Starting high school Marleny became involved in, Student Government, Dance club, Tennis, Helping Those In Need club, and her Church’s youth group. In these roles she developed leadership skills, learned to collaborate with others, and how to contribute to her community. Marleny discovered CHCI NextGen by a fellow alum and saw it as a meaningful opportunity. In her uncertainty of her exact path, Marleny gratitude and faith towards her hardworking parents pushed her to embrace any chance given to grow and create the future they were never given.
