Mauricio Gonzalez was born and raised in northeast Georgia in a hardworking Latino household. His mother immigrated to the United States from Peru in search of better opportunities. Growing up in a mixed-status family shaped Mauricio’s passion for public service and commitment to immigrant and working-class communities.
He is currently a Political Science major at the University of North Georgia (UNG). On campus, Mauricio served as President of UNG Young Democrats and Director of Social Events for Nighthawks Entertainment, where he helped lead campus-wide programming.
Mauricio has interned at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he gained exposure to equity-focused policy work. In summer 2025, he interned in Dublin, Ireland at Fórsa, one of the country’s largest trade unions, continuing his commitment to worker advocacy and international engagement. His long-term goal is to become a U.S. diplomat and advocate for international cooperation, equity, and human rights.
Mauricio hopes to strengthen his understanding of the legislative process and grow as a leader committed to public service throughout his time as a Congressional Internship Program participant.
