Shyh is a Native American Chicana born and raised in Hayward, California who takes great pride in her identity. A granddaughter of immigrants and daughter of parents who were first-generation, Shyh was taught and believes in the importance of staying connected to her roots, the importance of an education, and uplifting one’s community.
Shyh is a student-athlete at Gonzaga University, majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Promotions. In addition to playing Division 1 soccer, she serves as a DEI leader on the Gonzaga campus-wide DEI Council and the NCAA Student Advisory Committee. She was selected by Gonzaga for the Building Bridges initiative with Pope Francis in 2022. Shyh’s diverse background and experience enables her to relate and connect with others regardless of field, rank, or background. Shyh’s career aspirations include working in communications and making mass media a more inclusive field. She hopes to become a political strategist and go into consulting.
As a CHCI Intern, Shyh looks forward to learning about the federal legislative process, building collaborative and productive networks, and contributing her experiences and skills. Shyh strives to use the knowledge and experiences of CHCI to better serve our Latino communities.
