Jason (he/him) was born in Passaic, New Jersey, and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. As the son of Honduran immigrants, he developed a deep appreciation for community engagement and social justice from an early age. The inequalities his family faced throughout their lives instilled in him a passion for public interest work and dedication to advocating for marginalized communities.
Jason’s journey as a first-generation college student led him to excel academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in Political Science. During this time, he actively participated in various organizations, such as Student Government and the Student Conduct Board, where he would amplify the voice of the student body and address their needs across campus. Jason also interned for North Carolina State Senator Jay Chaudhuri, where he gained exposure to the many challenges affecting the Latino community at the state level. This experience strengthened his understanding of the importance of advocating for equitable representation.
As a CHCI Public Policy Fellow, Jason hopes to engage with like-minded individuals and influential leaders to deepen his understanding of effective advocacy and policy implementation. He also hopes to build on his strong foundation in research, policy writing, and communication skills. Ultimately, Jason aspires to pursue a career in public policy, aiming to effect positive change through legislative processes and government affairs.
