Washington, D.C. September 5, 2024 – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is proud to recognize the 2024 Chair’s Award honorees, Raúl “El Gordo” De Molina and Lili “La Flaca” Estefan — Latin America’s favorite talk show sweethearts.

The Chair’s Award is presented each year to individuals who have dedicated their public or private careers to improving the lives of Hispanic Americans. The honorees are chosen wholly at the Chair’s discretion.

“Both Raúl De Molina and Lili Estefan have captivated the hearts of Hispanic Americans for decades, bringing humor, levity and passion to the Emmy-Award winning El Gordo y La Flaca, and I look forward to celebrating their tremendous impact during this year’s Awards Gala,” said CHCI Chairman, Rep. Adriano Espaillat. “As iconic symbols of what América Latina talent is, Raúl and Lili Estefan have made TV programming more special for millions of American viewers and we are delighted to recognize their extraordinary success and accomplishments.”

“El Gordo y La Flaca is a cultural phenomenon and part of the Latin American entertainment zeitgeist,” said Marco A. Davis, CHCI President and CEO. “Raúl and Lili’s storied careers are both extraordinary journeys of two hard-working and tenacious Cuban Americans who have achieved the American Dream and I take great pleasure in celebrating their contributions during the Annual Awards Gala.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the Medallion Award at this year’s Gala as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s commitment to providing young Latinos the resources they need to thrive has long been an inspiration for me,” shared Raúl de Molina co-host of Univision’s El Gordo y La Flaca. “Through 26 years of being on air millions of families have virtually welcomed us into their homes and allowed us to serve as sources of entertainment and joy – this award is not just for us but for all the amazing people who have granted us the privilege to do what we do. I am thankful for the recognition and look forward to all that is to come.”

“Thank you to CHCI Chair, Rep. Adriano Espaillat for this incredible award,” said Lili Estefan. “Love, laughter and humor are ingrained in our culture, and it is a real privilege to do what I love while also touching the hearts of so many Americans who sit down every day to watch El Gordo y La Flaca.”

The CHCI Chair’s award comes as both Raúl and Lili have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame by the Walk of Fame Selection Panel of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
