Program Requirements
- Engage in and complete each of the Academy sessions, to include the in-person and virtual sessions
- Participate in all required CHCI-sponsored activities related to the Academy
- Comply with CHCI policies regarding personal conduct, as well as the community agreements set forth by the cohort
- Be present, participate, contribute and engage with an open mind and attitude
- Be a team player and be able to work with people across lines of difference
Participants who complete the requirements of the program will receive a certificate of completion and become part of the CHCI Alumni Association.
Please note: CHCI will continuously monitor Covid restrictions and case numbers. Participants will be required to be in Washington, D.C. for each of the in-person sessions outlined in the program requirement section. In addition, participants may also be required to follow protocols including but not limited to wearing a mask for the duration of the training, providing proof of vaccination, providing proof of a negative Covid test, and practicing social distancing guidelines.
Who Should Apply
Participants of all levels (e.g. Chief of Staff, Committee Professional Staff, Legislative Assistant, Legislative Correspondent, Staff Assistant, etc.) who:
- Are committed to public service
- Are self motivated lifelong learners with an open mind
- Are committed to developing their management and leadership skills
- Seek to exchange constructive dialogue with diverse perspectives of other highly motivated individuals that drive purposeful change
- Are self driven to increase their professional skill sets, to achieve professional excellence and advance their career mobility
The Academy is designed to provide hill staffers with content to support their current and future roles. Sessions will allow for hill staff (at every role and level, (i.e., Chief of Staff, Legislative Assistant, etc.) to collaborate with each other and build upon practices.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Be a full-time staff currently working on Capitol Hill, in any role (e.g. Chief of Staff, Committee Professional Staff, Legislative Assistant, Legislative Correspondent, Staff Assistant, etc.). Or former Hill staff who are or have transitioned from their roles and have a strong desire to return to the Hill.
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or individual who is lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employer and who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization. International students on F-1 or M-1 visas are not eligible for CHCI programs.
Note that preference will be given to applicants that identify as Latino.
***Family members of CHCI Board or Advisory Board Members are prohibited from participating in any of CHCI’s charitable programs (e.g., scholarships, internships, etc.). Applications by such family members will not be considered.

- Immediate family – includes spouse, domestic partner, ex-spouse, parents, siblings, half-siblings, children, stepchildren, grandparents, grandchildren, step-parents, step-siblings

Selection Process
