Hometown: Marietta, Georgia

School: Georgia Institute of Technology

Major: History, Technology, and Society

Placement: Office of Sen. Raphael Warnock

Fatima was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised north of the city in Marietta, Georgia. She is the daughter of two immigrants from Venezuela and Mexico and is the eldest of her two siblings. Seeing the political turmoil in her mother’s home country and the obstacles her parents faced on the path to citizenship drew her to law and policy at a young age. Growing up, Fatima’s parents always emphasized the belief that with hard work, nothing is impossible. As a result, she became motivated to be the first in her family to attend college, where she has excelled academically and been extensively involved on campus. Fatima is passionate about uplifting her community and empowering others to succeed as well.

Fatima is a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she studies History, Technology, and Society with a Pre-Law minor. On campus, she is involved in many Latin American student organizations, including GRACIAS at Tech, an extension of the nonprofit organization GRACIAS (Growing Ramos Association Cultivating Inclusion and Academic Support), which works to empower young Latinos on the path to higher education. She is also the Founder and Co-President of the Kappa Alpha Pi Chapter at Georgia Tech, where she works to foster community among pre-law and policy students. Last year, Fatima received the prestigious Gilman Scholarship and multiple institutional scholarships, which enabled her to study abroad in Metz, France, and grow her cultural awareness in Europe. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Fatima plans to attend law school to become an advocate for those in need.

While interning with CHCI, Fatima hopes to strengthen her knowledge of the legislative process and her personal and professional leadership skills. She is excited to make meaningful connections with like-minded Latino leaders and expand her network. She hopes to use this amazing experience to better serve her community and apply what she learns to her career.
