Yasmeen was born and raised in Southeast Los Angeles by her immigrant parents. Her parents emigrated from Mexico when they were young, settled in the city of South Gate, and had four children, Yasmeen being the youngest. As a young kid, Yasmeen witnessed financial hardship and the struggle that came with being uneducated and undocumented. As a result, she devoted herself to education with the hope of a better tomorrow. Yasmeen is now a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles, double majoring in Sociology and Labor Studies. Her focus has been on understanding low-income communities and the culture attached to them. She currently volunteers at two orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico, and hopes to continue her involvement as time progresses.
Upon graduating, Yasmeen hopes to attend law school, striving toward a career in immigration law. Her ultimate goal in life is to serve the community she once grew up in at a low cost. She believes that families should remain together and undivided by political affairs. What once were her struggles are now her ultimate source of motivation.
As a CHCI Intern, Yasmeen hopes to train her leadership skills, meet like-minded individuals, and learn about the legislative process. She believes these skills will serve her educational, career, and life journey. Yasmeen is excited to make a difference.
