2024 Fall Congressional Interns
Chelsy Pérez
Congressional Intern, Presented by Walmart
Hometown: Dublin, Ohio
School: The Ohio State University
Major: World Politics
Placement: Office of Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia
Chelsy was born in Fort Myers, Florida to diligent parents who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Later, they uprooted their life to pursue new economic opportunities in Dublin, Ohio, where she was raised. Chelsy went from living in a majority Hispanic community to being the only Latina in her classroom. This stark contrast sparked her interest in improving conditions for underrepresented communities, like hers, on a global scale.
Currently, Chelsy is a student at The Ohio State University. She is majoring in World Politics with a specialization in Foreign Policy and Security, and double minoring in French and Public Management. Beyond academics, she serves as Co-President for the Mexican Student Association she helped re-establish at Ohio State in 2023. Formerly, she served as Advocacy Head in the United Nations Association where she locally volunteered and fundraised for underprivileged communities across the world. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree, Chelsy hopes to obtain a master’s degree in Global Governance and Diplomacy after taking a year off to teach abroad. Her ultimate career goal is to work for the U.S. Department of State as a foreign service officer.
While in Washington, DC as a CHCI Intern, Chelsy hopes to gain insight on U.S. international relations and gain an interdisciplinary set of skills to navigate domestic and foreign policies. This experience will create a necessary foundation for the long journey that awaits her.
