Congressional Intern, Presented by Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation

Hometown: White City, Oregon

School: The George Washington University

Majors: Political Science, Spanish

Placement: The Office of Rep. Andrea Salinas

Fatima was born and raised in White City, a small town in Southern Oregon. She is the eldest daughter of two hard-working immigrants from Zacatecas, Mexico. Fatima is a student at The George Washington University studying Political Science & Spanish, with a minor in Criminal Justice, and a micro-minor in Immigration Studies. Fatima is involved in Alpha Phi Sigma, serves as the External Outreach Chair for Kappa Alpha Pi, and is on the Events Committee for GW Catholics. Outside of academics, she is a team leader for GW Jumpstart, volunteering weekly at Jubilee Jumpstart in DC. Growing up in a low-income community, Fatima was on the receiving end of programs like Jumpstart, and is always looking to give back to her community.

Faima enjoys reading, baking, and traveling in her free time. Upon finishing her studies, Fatima will continue into law school to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer and advocating for and supporting underserved communities through her work. While working as a CHCI Intern, Fatima hopes to amplify her knowledge regarding public policy, tone her research skills, and gain insight into the intersection of law and the legislative process.
