Richermy M. Batista Marinez
Hometown: Hazleton, Pennsylvania
School: East Stroudsburg University
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Rep. Greg Casar
Richermy was born and raised in San Jose de Ocoa, a province in the Dominican Republic, where she lived before immigrating to the United States at the age of seven. Being raised by two hard-working & humble parents, she understands the importance of pursuing higher education and giving back to the community.
Richermy is a Senior at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a double minor in Psychology and Communications. As a first-generation college student, Richermy is determined to use her education to create opportunities for others in her community. At the age of 13, she started volunteering at her local community center, Hazleton Integration Project, where she has completed over 300 hours throughout the years mentoring the youth and assisting Spanish-speaking adults. As a sophomore at her university, Richermy was awarded the prestigious MLK Award, which is presented to one student every year who embodies Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. philosophy. Richermy is a Residential Advisor, served as the Student Affairs Chairwoman for the Student Government Association, and President of the first collegiate chapter of MANA, the oldest and largest Latina organization within the United States.
Through CHCI, Richermy hopes to further explore her passions for public service, advocacy, and the environment, by taking part and learning the political processes for these movements on Capitol Hill. Richermy hopes to use this experience as a stepping stone to a long career representing Latinos in the White House.
