ISHMAEL ABUABARA

A Native of San Antonio, Texas, Ishmael Abuabara is currently a Legislative Assistant with Congressman Joaquin Castro where he covers energy, veterans affairs, climate, and other issues. 

Before joining Team Castro, he worked at the German Marshall Fund (GMF) of the United States. At GMF, Ishmael supported the Director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy and assisted several projects related to internet governance and emerging technologies. 

Before moving to Washington, D.C., Ishmael worked in the San Antonio Mayor’s office, where he helped implement the Mayor’s constituent services program. Ishmael graduated from the University of Texas at  San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs in 2020. In his spare time, Ishmael enjoys trying new restaurants with friends and learning about Roman history.
