Juan Diego was born in Turlock, California and was raised in Huáscato, Jalisco, Mexico, as well as Ceres, California. Growing up as the fourth of five siblings with immigrant parents, Juan Diego learned to appreciate the work and determination that is needed to represent the sacrifices of his parents, his culture, and community through his independent passions, while having been fortunate enough to rely on family as a support system.
Juan Diego is pursuing a degree in Biology at Modesto Junior College. He is passionate about increasing the representation of his culture and the success of people of the same background within the Modesto community. He seeks to achieve this through his work as President of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán. Juan Diego is also part of the college’s Math, Engineering, Science, and Achievement (MESA) program, where he is able to further pursue his interest in medicine, and volunteers his time to encourage other younger Latinos to pursue careers in STEM. After completing his undergraduate career, Juan Diego’s goal is to attend medical school in order to serve as a role model for his culture, and achieve his dream of helping others as a doctor.
With the support of CHCI and HEP/CAMP, Juan Diego wants to develop his leadership and community organizing abilities to better support and help those within his immediate and surrounding communities, as well as strengthening his knowledge as a social activist.
