School: University of Maryland – College Park
Majors: Business Management; International Business
Placement: Office of Sen. Christopher Van Hollen
Maite was born in Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to Maryland, USA, at age 16 due to her father’s job as a diplomat for the Argentinian Navy. This frequent relocation shaped her into an adaptable and sociable individual and furthered her interest in languages, including her native Spanish, as well as English and French. Her communication, perseverance, and leadership skills have driven her success amidst substantial change. Growing up in Argentina experiencing economic distress, law noncompliance, and corruption, Maite developed an interest in governmental systems and social equality.
Maite is currently a student at the Robert H. Smith School of Business from the University of Maryland, double majoring in International Business and Business Management. At Howard Community College, she served as President of the Ambiciones Ambassadors organization supporting Hispanic students, and as Vice President of Leadership for the Honors Society, contributing to research on mentorship dynamics. Her professional experience includes a legal internship in Argentina with a military lawyer, and writing a comparative law paper on women’s rights in Afghanistan and Argentina. To further her interest in public policy and human rights, she joined the Maryland Student Legislature and participated in the 2023 session at the Maryland State House.
With support from CHCI, Maite hopes to strengthen her passion for human rights and gain experience on how bills are processed from a legal perspective. She aims to use this opportunity to contribute to the community, gain insight into U.S. international relations, defend women’s rights, and eventually join an international organization.
