Sayuri’s journey began in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where she spent her early years until her family immigrated to Denver, Colorado when she was just six years old. As a first-generation Latina immigrant, she developed a profound appreciation for community and the importance of empowerment from a young age.
At 14, Sayuri started advocating for her community by actively participating in city council meetings to address issues affecting residents. Her dedication to community service and leadership continued to grow, leading her to work alongside Council President Jaime Torres in later years.
Sayuri celebrated her graduation from Regis University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with minors in French and Marketing. Her academic achievements reflect her commitment to acquiring diverse skills that align with her passion for community empowerment. Sayuri has been instrumental in forging partnerships, facilitating cross-functional community projects, and bridging gaps between various stakeholders in the City of Denver.
As a CHCI Intern, Sayuri aims to forge valuable opportunities and connections that will enable her to advance her advocacy efforts for herself, marginalized communities, and the nation at large. Moreover, she is committed to acquiring knowledge during her internship and plans to apply this newfound expertise to benefit her community upon her return.
