Amilcar Guzman, a 2008-2009 Public Policy Fellows, comes to the role of National President with six years of experience in CHCI Alumni leadership, first serving on the CHCI- AA national executive board and then as the President of the DC Chapter. About his CHCI experience, Amilcar says, “I would not be the person that I am today without my CHCI experience. My fellowship and subsequent time as an alumnus have completely transformed my life – both professionally and personally. With this firsthand knowledge of the power of CHCI, I am driven to ensure that alumni and current program participants have the support necessary in order to thrive.

As part of his platform during his campaign for the office of CHCI-AA National President, Amilcar has expressed his commitment to following goals: (1) “Developing professional development opportunities, streamlining communications and building robust partnerships. Through the implementation of an annual retreat, I believe that alumni will gain the key skills necessary to succeed in the workplace, in the political arena, and in life.” (2) “…establishing a searchable database of our alumni, it will be much easier for all of our members, and for stakeholders, to connect.” (3) Developing robust relationships with social, professional and academic organizations will allow our members to advance in their careers and educational pursuits. (4) “…[serving as a] strong advocate and represent our alumni interests on the CHCI Board of Directors. By providing a strong alumni representation on the board, we will continue to build an organization that will offer the best training and experiences for future Latino leaders.”
