CHCI Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Re: Daca Case
Washington, DC, June 18, 2020—Marco Davis, President and CEO of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), made the following statement:
“We applaud the U.S. Supreme Court for its ruling that protects Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) by striking down the President’s 2017 effort to end it. In a vote of 5-4, the Supreme Court made the right decision for the nearly 700,000 hardworking DACA recipients – Dreamers who contribute to the economic, social, and cultural fabric of communities throughout this country. This ruling is a positive step for Dreamers to remain in the U.S., which is also in keeping with the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the American people. Nonetheless, this case has served as a stark reminder of the critical work Congress must do to enact meaningful comprehensive immigration reform, in order to avoid challenges like this in the future.”
