Everytown for Gun Safety
Jose is the Senior Director of State Government Affairs at Everytown for Gun Safety. He leads a team of fourteen in-house lobbyists and dozens of in-state contract lobbyists to advance gun violence prevention legislation and budget initiatives in every state in the nation. He has also been a longtime advocate for public education, immigrant rights, and many progressive causes for over two decades.
Prior to joining Everytown, Jose was Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs for the Hispanic Federation, overseeing federal and local advocacy, government relations, and civic engagement efforts nationally with a focus on New York, Connecticut, and Florida. He served as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Director of Community Organizing at the New York City Public Advocate’s Office under Bill de Blasio. He has worked at the New York Immigration Coalition, New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) and the Fiscal Policy Institute, as well as for several electoral campaigns including for New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Pace University.
Jose is on the board of directors of the Advocacy Institute and Shop Causes and is a member of the Business Board of Advisors for the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL). He previously served as a mayoral-appointed member of the New York City Panel for Education Policy, on the board of New York City School Support Services, and on the Chancellor’s Advisory Group on School Performance Reports.
In 2023, Jose was honored by NHCSL as the recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Colgate University and a Master of Public Policy Degree from Rutgers University. He is a Bronx native of Puerto Rican descent, a lucky husband and proud father.
