Melissa Alvarado is the Director of Government Affairs at Delta Air Lines. In this role, she shapes aviation policy working with Democratic leaders in both the Senate and the House, as well as Administration officials. Drawing on her extensive background in government service, she continues to provide thought leadership and advocacy, with a focus on Delta’s security and passenger facilitation priorities with Congress, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and other government partners.
She joined Delta from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security, where she served as a professional staff member responsible for aviation, maritime, and transportation security for Chairman Bennie Thompson. Before joining the Committee on Homeland Security, she worked for the TSA’s Office of Legislative Affairs as a Detail to the DHS’s Office of the Secretary, supporting CBP, immigration, drug interdiction, law enforcement engagement, and natural disaster response. Prior to her time in the executive branch, Melissa served in the U.S. Senate on the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and in the personal office of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.
