Tim was born and raised across Colorado, living in multiple cities and homes in Colorado’s foster-care system until he was adopted at 12 years old. Growing up primarily in Denver’s Northside, a historic neighborhood in the Chicano Movement (El Movimiento), Tim was instilled early with a passion for Latinx education, labor, and civil rights reform.

Tim studies English Education and Teaching English as a Second Language as a first-generation student at the University of Northern Colorado. Immediately before his position in the Congressional Internship Program, Tim was a full-time student-teacher at George Washington High School in Denver Public Schools. He is also a Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program Scholar (identitybaseded.org) and an Esteemed member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

Tim is a committed activist inside and outside the classroom. He has organized rallies to support DACA and to combat against White Supremacy in Colorado, co-founded a trailblazing multicultural recruitment program at his university, and has been elected the first Latinx Student Body President in the history of his institution. After completing his degree, Tim wants to work—as a policy advocate, community activist, or elected official—to revolutionize education, labor, and civil rights policy at the local, state, or national level.

As a CHCI intern, Tim hopes to expand his understanding of political advocacy and engage with motivated people from all parts of our democracy, from constituent to Congressperson. He hopes to one day leverage this experience into his combination of equity, policy, and civic engagement work.
