WIDO CANALES

Current Position/Organization

Spring 2020 CHCI-Walmart Intern

Hometown: Colorado Springs, Colorado
School: Metropolitan State College at Denver
Major: Political Science
Placement: The Office of Sen. Michael Bennet

Wido was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado with three younger brothers and one baby sister. Both of his parents are immigrants from Mexico and came from a very poor neighborhood. He is the first person in his whole family to attend college, and Wido understands the sacrifices his parents made to one day put him and his siblings ahead in life. Wido has always been a natural leader and those skills led him to travel across the world to Nepal to rebuild homes while teaching English to a local elementary school. Wido was also a soccer coach for troubling children in low-income communities and understood the need to be a good role model for not only his players, his family, but for himself.

Wido is currently a junior at the Metropolitan State University of Denver majoring in Political Science with a double minor in International Relations and Anthropology. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Wido hopes to join the foreign services and work as a diplomat across the world. He hopes to work with leaders across the world to help kids in troubling countries go to school and get a proper education.

As a CHCI intern, Wido hopes to strengthen his knowledge of international relations across all parts of the world, as well as being able to write strong legislative policies. He hopes to apply this experience towards his own career goal of becoming a diplomat for the United States.
