Raised in the Bay Area, Yanely is the oldest of two children to hard-working Mexican-Guatemalan parents, and credits them for instilling values of diligence and patience. Yanely sees her diverse background as a valuable asset in discussions on political representation and diversity.
With a deep-rooted understanding of the importance of hard work, Yanely is committed to uplifting her family and community, and is driven by a desire to make a positive impact. Yanely is deeply aware of health disparities and is determined to advocate for policies benefiting underrepresented communities.
Yanely’s academic pursuits and research focus on health issues, including the HPV vaccine and its impact on various communities. Whether it is serving as a college senator, coordinating outreach efforts for two campus clubs, or managing social media platforms for the Pre-Health Advising Office, Yanely’s overarching aim is to foster connections and advocate for fellow students, bridging the gap between campus and community.
Yanely aims to take on a leadership role during her time with CHCI, while expanding her understanding of public policy and legislation’s effects on health disparities. Yanely is excited to strengthen both her knowledge within the government system and community outreach. She looks forward to collaborating with fellow young leaders, eager to contribute her skills to promote equitable health practices.
