Congressional Intern, Presented by TOTE Group

Hometown: Aurora, Colorado

School: Stanford University

Major: Political Science

Placement: The Office of Sen. Michael Bennet

Joshua was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado by a single mother alongside a younger sister. His journey as a first-generation, low-income Latino has been both challenging and inspiring. Growing up in a majority-minority community, he witnessed firsthand the systemic barriers that impact marginalized communities and create opportunity gaps. He has also seen the resilience, strength, and love that radiates throughout his community, family, and friends. These experiences fuel Joshua’s passion for wanting to dismantle these barriers and create a more equitable future for all.

Currently, Joshua attends Stanford University, pursuing a major in Political Science with a minor in Education. Beyond the classroom, Joshua works at the Office for Inclusion, Belonging & Intergroup Communication at Stanford, where he plays a pivotal role in facilitating conversations around diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice on campus.

Joshua’s ambition extends beyond his undergraduate studies. He aspires to attend law school, driven by a desire to leverage the intersection of law and politics. His ultimate goal is to embark on a career in public service, specifically in state and local politics, where he can serve as a representative for the communities that have instilled in him so much support and strength.

Joshua hopes to enrich his understanding of the legislative process and effective advocacy strategies during his time with CHCI. He is eager to use this experience to make a meaningful difference in his community and to inspire others to advocate for change, embodying the principle that every voice deserves to be heard and every barrier to equality challenged.
