Hometown: Fallbrook, California

Adelesly was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 5 years old. Her family settled in the small town of Fallbrook in San Diego, California where she was raised. As an immigrant herself, Adelesly is committed to advocating on behalf of the immigrant community. Through her work as a Mini-Corps tutor, she has helped many migrant and newcomer students adapt to their new school environment, and has assisted them in their academic journeys. Adelesly has always seen her opportunity to be in the U.S. as a motivation to succeed academically and professionally in order to give back to her family and community.
Adelesly is a graduating senior at California State University of San Marcos with a Bachelor of Arts with two majors, one in Global Studies with a focus on International Law & Human Rights and Global Conflict & Cooperation, and the other in Spanish language and culture. Once her internship at CHCI ends she hopes to start working in the non-profit sector to aid underprivileged groups to obtain the rights they deserve. In the future, her goal is to work for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to fight for equality and justice to build a better world.
As a CHCI intern, Adelesly hopes to grow professionally by acquiring a well-rounded understanding of the public policy process, to know how best to influence policies that negatively impact disadvantaged populations. She hopes this experience will empower her to raise her voice in defense of her community.
