Chelsy was born and raised in the small neighborhood of City Terrace in Los Angeles, California by her mother and father who both immigrated to the United States from Mexico and played an essential role in Chelsy’s decision to pursue higher education. Chelsy is currently a rising Senior at the University of California, Merced, the newest campus and the nation’s first research institution of the 21st century.
During her time at UC Merced, Chelsy has been involved with the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and served as President. Chelsy was also a Human Resources Intern at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, a non-profit organization named after the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and led by his daughter Kerry Kennedy. After concluding her internship, Chelsy joined Services for Undocumented Students, an on-campus service that provides mentorship and financial and legal assistance for undocumented students.
Chelsy also had the privilege of interning with the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, where she assisted with collaborative efforts between State and Local Government. After having other professional experiences in public service, Chelsy hopes to pursue a career in public service in the Central Valley. She is passionate about accessibility to health care, equity, immigration, and social justice. Chelsy also plans to pursue a Master of Public Policy and is considering attending law school to pursue constitutional law.
As a CHCI Intern, Chelsy hopes to gain a greater understanding of the legislative process and strengthen her leadership skills to pursue her future endeavors.
