Matias Cacheiro is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park and he is studying International Relations with a minor in United States Latino/a Studies. Both of Matias’ parents immigrated from Argentina to Maryland after they got married over 20 years ago, and he enjoys his culture by drinking maté and supporting his favorite club River Plate.
In addition to taking classes about different aspects about United States politics, Matias has been involved throughout a number of leadership positions across campus. Through his work with many different prominent Latino student organizations Matias has also had opportunities to advocate on official Student Leader Advisory groups for the Latinx Critical Issues those students identified needing to be addressed on campus. Matias’ work with student organizations made him develop an even greater appreciation for grassroots organizing, community volunteering, and local politics. In the future Matias wishes to continue his education and one day obtain a Law degree. For Matias’ career goals, he hopes to one day work overseas as an ambassador and/or even run for office.
As a CHCI Intern, Matias plans to learn new ways to create an impact on his community through a greater understanding of federal political procedures. In addition, Matias looks forward to working with constituents and hearing from different ideas and perspectives from across the country. Matias is humbled and grateful for this opportunity, and he hopes to use this opportunity to further develop his professional career.
