Devyn Lopez was raised in the Bay Area most of her life and discovered how crucial it is to give back to her community when she moved to East San Jose. She is committed to assisting underserved populations through policy-focused, educational, and social services aimed at helping individuals build a sense of agency. One of her ultimate aspirations is to advocate on behalf of survivors of sexual and domestic abuse in her career. Devyn’s past advocacy work has allowed her to educate people about domestic and sexual violence in a manner that promotes healthy relationships while uplifting the difficult experiences of survivors. She believes this challenging yet necessary work is needed to destigmatize sexual and domestic violence and give a voice to survivors who are often weighed down by guilt and silence.
Devyn graduated with a B.A. in Social Welfare from the University of California Berkeley in May 2023. Upon graduating, Devyn interned at Senator Susan Rubio’s Capitol Office as a Cal-in-Sacramento fellow. As a CHCI intern, Devyn strives to continue learning about the legislative process and build meaningful relationships with individuals who are knowledgeable in advocacy and legislative processes in D.C.
As a CHCI Intern, she aspires to utilize her time to network with professionals and seek possible policy-focused career opportunities in D.C. Her background in advocacy, she believes, is needed in spaces like Capitol Hill. Like her mentors before her, Devyn hopes to pave the way for other Latinas in professional and academic spaces.
