Jesus Manuel Rendon-Silva Jr is a first-generation Mexican American who was born and raised in South Phoenix, Arizona and is the son of two Mexican immigrants; his mother from the state of Nayarit and his father from the state of Sinaloa. At a young age Jesus was exposed to the consequences of disproportionate education, safety, and health in minority communities as well as the immense anti-immigrant legislation against Latinos within his state which prompted Jesus to become passionate and involved in politics.
He is currently a Junior attending Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University and triple majoring in Political Science, Philosophy (Morality, Ethics, Law), and Public Service and Public Policy. As a first generation student, Jesus has placed an immense value on higher education and chasing the next opportunity that presents itself.
Throughout Jesus’ undergraduate years he has been heavily involved in policy and legislation as he has interned for California’s Governor, one of Arizona’s Senators, Arizona’s State Legislature, as well as worked as the Director of Civic Engagement within his University. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Jesus aspires to obtain a Law Degree and work on addressing immigration and criminal justice issues, all the while anticipating to run for political office in the near future.
As a CHCI Intern, Jesus hopes to gain more knowledge of the legislative process and acquire insight into the Hills environment and opportunities. He hopes to understand how law and policy can be formulated to usher success and justice to his community.
