School: Florida International University
Major: Organizational Communication
Placement: The Office of Rep. Frederica Wilson

Jonathan Isaias Garcia, a proud native of the Dominican Republic, draws inspiration from his family’s unwavering faith and their commitment to education. He holds deep admiration for his late grandfather, Ramon E. Garcia, a revered public educator in the Dominican Republic, whose legacy profoundly impacted Jonathan’s life.

Jonathan’s passion for community service and leadership stems from his family’s values. He envisions a future where young people have access to exceptional educational opportunities, and where his community thrives in safety and prosperity. Graduating from Florida International University with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication Studies, Jonathan has built a strong academic foundation.

For the past five years, Jonathan has been employed full-time at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, an experience that has solidified his dedication to improving public education and advocating for students and families.

Jonathan aims to enhance his leadership skills while gaining a deeper understanding of public policy and its impact on local education. He aspires to be a voice at the highest level of government, advocating for federal policies that benefit communities like his own. Jonathan dreams of witnessing policy-making firsthand, and seeing tangible change being enacted. Through this internship, Jonathan seeks to leverage his knowledge and skills, acquired both through his academic pursuits and his community involvement, to make a meaningful difference.

As an CHCI Intern, he hopes to strengthen his leadership abilities and gain valuable insight into the legislative process, further empowering him to make a positive impact in his community as a leader, and inspire others to do the same.
